Fire detection · UK-wide

Designed, installed and commissioned — by engineers who know the kit inside out.

Midland Fire Direct designs, installs and commissions fire detection systems across commercial, healthcare, education and industrial buildings. We're an approved Gent by Honeywell System Integrator and Platinum Partner, and a UK supplier across the wider Honeywell fire portfolio — Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus, Nano, S-Quad and S-Cubed, alongside Morley-IAS, Xtralis VESDA, FAAST and Li-ion Tamer.

Engineering services

New sites, new builds, new Gent installations.

Most of our day-to-day work is taking on new projects — new builds and major refits where the Gent System Integrator + Platinum Partner badge actually matters. We carry the engineering from design through commissioning and into long-term support.

Why Gent

Backwards-compatible field devices across three generations of Vigilon panels.

Most fire-alarm manufacturers force a full panel rip-out at each generation change. Gent by Honeywell deliberately doesn't — sensors, sounders and interface modules from earlier Vigilon installations carry forward onto Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano. A panel upgrade no longer means re-cabling every ceiling.

EN54-2 / EN54-4

Current platform

Vigilon Plus is the current Gent control panel platform, certified to EN54-2 (control & indicating equipment) and EN54-4 (power supply).

S-Quad / S-Cubed

Shared loop protocol

S-Quad and S-Cubed field-device families address through the same loop protocol used across every Gent panel.

CLSS-ready

Cloud-connected

Vigilon Plus is built for Honeywell's Connected Life Safety Services (CLSS) for cloud diagnostics and reporting.

Supply & spares

Parts in stock for the work we commission.

We hold 1,100+ Gent, Morley, Xtralis and FAAST parts at our Loughborough trade counter — kept on the shelf for our own design and install work, and a supply backbone when Gent themselves are short.

Recent work

Three jobs, three outcomes.

Hospitality · Leeds

14-storey hotel refurbishment — S-Quad refresh on a live Vigilon site.

Phased S-Quad detector replacement across 14 floors without taking the system out of service. The existing Vigilon loop protocol carried the new devices natively — no rewiring needed.

Live site, zero downtime, fully recommissioned in 9 working days.
Healthcare · Coventry

Care-home fault clearance — three previous suppliers couldn't isolate the root cause.

Recurring loop fault on a 12-year-old Vigilon installation. Loop Explorer diagnostics via direct serial connection identified a single S-Cubed sounder with intermittent isolator failure.

Cleared on the first site visit; written diagnostic report supplied.
Education · East Midlands

Independent school CLSS integration — full design + commission.

Vigilon Plus install across two boarding houses and a sports hall, networked back to the bursar's office via Vigilon repeat panel and brought onto Honeywell CLSS for cloud diagnostics and remote reporting.

Designed, installed and commissioned by our team in 11 working days.
What clients say

Facilities teams, contractors and consultants.

"Proper Gent specialists. They knew the Vigilon loop protocol better than the manufacturer rep who turned up — saved us a week of fault-finding."
M. Reeves
Fire alarm contractor · Birmingham
"Designed our new Vigilon Plus install and commissioned it without taking the live system offline for a full working day. The handover documentation was the best I've seen on a Gent job."
S. Patel
Facilities manager · Manchester
"They actually answer the phone. And the engineer on the other end has commissioned more Gent panels than I've had hot dinners."
D. Clarke
Facilities consultant · London
Frequently asked

A few common questions.

Do you design and commission full systems, or just supply parts?

Our core work is design, install and commission of Gent fire detection systems as an approved Gent System Integrator and Platinum Partner. Parts are kept on the shelf to support that work; trade-supply orders from other installers are also welcome.

Are you an authorised Gent System Integrator?

Yes — formally authorised to design, supply, install, commission and hand over Gent fire detection systems. We hold Platinum Partner status, the highest tier of the Gent by Honeywell partner network.

Will Vigilon Plus replace my older Vigilon devices?

In most cases, yes. Vigilon Plus runs the same S-Quad and S-Cubed field-device loop protocol used on existing Vigilon, Compact Plus and Nano installations, so detectors and sounders typically carry forward during a panel upgrade.

What does your design and commissioning process look like?

Specification and cause-and-effect at design stage, on-site install with our own engineers, full commissioning with Gent's diagnostic tooling, and documented handover. Lifecycle support continues after handover for fault-finding and panel upgrades.
